ESA 2020 Global Around-the-Clock Virtual Conference Program
Because of the pandemic of COVID-19, we had to cancel all our regional and world ESA meetings in 2020. We hope to resume face-to-face meetings in 2021. In the meantime, to promote continuing engagement, we are very pleased to announce a massive global online meeting!
The virtual conference will take place between September 10 (NZ time) and September 12 (Hawaii time), 2020, and will run around the clock on Zoom. Sessions will be scheduled in three 8-hour blocks, such that speakers from at least two of our three timezone regions (Asia-Pacific, Europe, Americas) should be able to participate in each session.
We are very pleased to announce confirmed keynote speakers (in alphabetical order):
Roland Benabou (Princeton University)
Soo Hong Chew (Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, China)
Lata Gangadharan (Monash University)
Nagore Iriberri (University of the Basque Country)
George Loewenstein (Carnegie Mellon University)
Andrew Schotter (New-York University)
Jean-Robert Tyran (Vienna University)
Lise Vesterlund (University of Pittsburgh)
Several 100-minute live parallel sessions will be organized with 20 minutes for each of four presentations. All talks will be recorded and posted promptly so that ultimately you will be able to attend any session regardless of your time zone.
We are developing a lively on-line social program. Details are not yet finalized, and a separate call for ideas and volunteers will go out soon. Events may include virtual meetings with your favorite researcher to talk about their and your ideas, and also “cocktail hours” and “beer sessions” where participants will have a chance to socialize and share a drink virtually.
Please keep in mind that in order to submit an abstract, you have to be a registered paid member of ESA for 2020. To renew your membership or to register and become a paid member, click here and complete the relevant information.
Registration fees are US$ 50 (faculty) / US$ 20 (students and faculty from low income countries). These fees will be used to cover the costs of technical and practical assistance during each virtual session. Only registered conference participants will be provided with information about how to attend the sessions online and how to access registered talks.
July 24, 2020: Deadline to submit abstracts
August 7, 2020: Notification of acceptance
August 28, 2020: Registration deadline
Note that this global online meeting complements the new ESA Mentoring Program, the ESA Junior Faculty Webinar, and, starting next Fall, the ESA Job Market Preparation Webinar (more information later).
We look forward to meeting everyone online on September 10-12, 2020!
